I am now officially two-timing -- I launched a professional blog since last posting at Daddytude. Let's hope that makes my posts here shorter and sweeter...
What have we been up to recently?
Well DT, feeling sentimental, re-arranged his schedule at the last minute to chaperone Maria's Last Preschool Field Trip. He got to ride the school bus with the best of them and herd children at the nature center.
Interestingly, we sent another chaperone to this same field trip a few years ago! (Nonna took a similar photo of Maria on the trip.)
Speaking of Maria's impending start of Kindergarten, we went to Target with a list of required supplies from the school yesterday. When I was a kid, I don't remember needing to bring a roll of paper towels and the dry erase markers for the teacher along with my own box of crayons. Oh well.
Even more exciting, in the past few weeks, Maria and David started to enjoy playing together. Not just playing separate things near each other, or fighting over who gets to ride the plasma car, I mean happily playing the same activity. What is the activity? FLYNN RIDER! (If you don't have a small child, Flynn Rider is the swashbuckling male protagonist in the Rapunzel movie "Tangled".)
Playing Flynn Rider usually means one child carries a satchel with a crown in it and jumps all over the furniture, while the other child chases Flynn and pretends to be either the bad thieving brothers or Maximus the horse. But this day, it just meant building a tall block-tower for the Rapunzel doll, before knocking it over.
David got a haircut this weekend. (Why do I always wait so long??)
He looks pretty good. But don't tell him that. If you do, you will get a response like this one that I got from him this morning: "I am not cute. I am just Davy. Not handsome."
That's our humble guy, after a "Dog Under." One thing he's happy to brag about though, is his new potty prowess. In the past couple of days, something has really clicked. He is able to tell us when he needs to use the bathroom and is motivated to do so. Today he has been in underwear all day! (Not without incident -- a poop ball ended up going straight from the bottom, into the Toy Story underwear, and then onto the floor, without ever hitting the toilet, necessitating a bath for all the bath mats.)
Also, we are reaping some rewards from our gardening. The monsoons of July wiped out our zucchini plant, but we are now getting cucumbers, carrots (they still have some growing to do -- see the shrimpy one below), and pumpkins.
And, when we tire of our own yard, we enjoy our neighbors'! Check out these Jack and the Beanstalk-sized sunflowers:

I thought I recognized that barn.
Nice end-of-summer photos. I liked all the greenery--sun flowers, your veggies, and the great memories you are growing for your children. It is always so heartwarming for parents to see their children playing together! i have seen that very smile on another kid, except he was wearing a soccer uniform.
That was quite a tower!
I couldn't believe how tiny David was in that old post with Nonna the Chaperone. I guess that's why we still call him "Baby David." And what potty prowess! (I guess that's why we can stop calling him "Baby David!")
When does Maria start?
I think you should try to use the words "poop ball" in your other blog sometime.
